A common mistake business owners make is assuming that because their website is hosted on a “secure” platform, their entire digital identity is safe. This is what I call “Mirroring.” You are essentially renting the security of a landlord.
While a host might keep the building standing, they aren’t responsible for who has the keys to your front door. If your IT partner is only mirroring a host’s settings, they are leaving massive gaps in your perimeter—specifically regarding your identity and domain authority.
True security requires active management, not just passive hosting. This means enforcing protocols like DNSSEC to prevent traffic hijacking and DMARC to stop people from spoofing your email address. It involves monitoring behavioral patterns for “impossible travel” logins that automated systems often miss.
You need a watchstander who manages the identity layer where the majority of breaches actually occur. When you secure the identity, you secure the business. Stop wondering if your “landlord” has you covered.
